Hsuan-Wai Sheng (盛宣懷先生) 
Presidency:1896~1905

The founder of Nanyang College, with the reputation of the “Father of Chiao Tung University”.

Core Ideas: encouraging students to cultivate their mind and absorb new knowledge from the West.

Character: Being progressive in thinking, seeking truth from facts, and holding a lifelong ambition to “do great things” and “become an official of high ranks.”

Contributions: Building a solid foundation for telecommunications, railroads, steamboats, and mines at the time, and having been called the “Father of Modern Industry”.

Wen-Chih Tang(唐文治先生)
Presidency:1907~1920

Core Ideas: Setting the focus for academic development on science and engineering, encouraging students to be the persons of the first rank, and attaching importance to the education of ethics, Western languages, Chinese classics, and physical training.

Character: Attaching utmost importance to morality, and advocating being upright in character.

Contributions: Having been devoted to education for more than half of the century, and being one of the most famous Sinologists and educationalists in our country.

Hung-Hsun Ling(淩鴻勛先生)
Presidency:1924~1927

The youngest university president in China who was instrumental in the reestablishment of Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

Core Ideas: Asserting that not until the basis was concretely formed could the university make any further progress, and encouraging the students to keep to their studies with the principle ─study and make contributions to the country.

Character: Maintaining a cautious attitude toward life and the spirit of “doing the best”.

Contributions: Participation in the construction of many important railroads in China, and having been called “China Railroad Sage” as a worthy successor of Tien-yu Chan.
